Death of a Russian spammer

Who hasn’t been thinking about clobbering spammers when finding one’s inbox cluttered with junk? A Russian spammer was recently found beaten to death, but his murder probably didn’t have anything to do with his spam activities. eXile editor Mark Ames writes about the death of Vardan Kushnir:

Initially, it was suggested that one of his many pissed-off spam-victims might have gone vigilante and done society a favor. But the truth of the murder — at the hands a trio of sluts he met at the Hungry Duck last Saturday night, who slipped him a mickey in his drink — shows that a very un-hi-tech obsession is what drove his life…and death.

“He liked to fuck whores in the ass, and not wear a condom, and then brag about it,” said a former acquaintance who asked not to be identified. “And he did it all the time.”

So not only do spammers clolg your mailbox, they also have lots of sex.

Bastards!

Swedish cable channel TV3 had been planning on showing “Under the Cover”, a reality show of sorts where ordinary couples are filmed having sex, and then given some pointers by sex experts, but the channel instead opted for “The Closer”, of all shows. Yes, “The Closer”, TNT’s cop drama about a Deputy Police Chief in Los Angeles.

Taking a free ride on the Information Super Turnpike

I wouldn’t exactly be shocked if a future wave of class-action lawsuits is aimed at sites that routinely “hot link” to graphics on other sites (think big sites with deep-pocketed owners: Yahoo, MySpace.)

In the meantime, PO’d website operators can strike back the old fashioned way.

Code is like children: Best not seen

It’s been a couple of years since I wrote ASP-type code, and I’ve never had to admin a server running ASP, so I don’t know what caused this barf on alternative weekly freebie newspaper Boston Phoenix’s web site a few days ago:

I don’t think “ASP sucks!” is a helpful explanation.
